Artist's Description

This crest can be found on the quake damaged Municipal Chambers on Oxford Terrace, Christchurch, NZ.

The train coming out of the tunnel shows the achievement of carving out the first tunnel in the world through an extinct volcano. It goes 2.7 km from Christchurch to Lyttelton and is called the Moorhouse Tunnel. It was completed in 1867.
