Description
On the Sandwich Road at Cliffsend you will find the Hugin, a replica Viking ship.
It is called a replica Viking ship, but it was sailed from Denmark in 1949 by 53 Danes. This in my mind is a real ship sailed by real Viking descendants. The crossing was to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the arrival of the legendary Hengist and his brother Horsa, two Saxon chieftains, who landed at Ebbsfleet.
The replica ship landed at Viking Bay, Broadstairs, Kent before being placed on permanent display just off the main road to the west of Pegwell Bay.
